Gallery #1: The Slocumb Art Gallery Visiting the Slocumb galleries is an interesting experience indeed. I had no idea what to think throughout my entire visit. Some things just seemed like they didn't belong in an art gallery, like pictures of random hair in an environment (that is the only way I know how to explain that) or pictures of random lines across a canvas. Though, upon analyzing the artist's notes and the materials they used, I was incredibly impressed and even inspired. Some artists could work magic with just a bit of tissue paper and paper cement, and others made brilliant sculptures out of simple ceramic. My favorite piece was the Disney themes mobiles that spun around serenely as if they were mechanical in some fashion. They were beautifully crafted and filled me with nostalgia, leaving me with a great respect for the brilliant artist who crafted them. Of course, I do not discredit any of the work I have seen. Just because I didn't understand it or appreciate it does not mean I do not respect it, and each of those pieces indisputably deserves to be on display in the Slocumb galleries.
